Uh, Yeah Nah (We're Apple-Only, Sry)
For years peeps have been like "ZOMG, OnSong on Android??" and now, plot twist—it's actually happenin'. You can yeet OnSong onto your Android 9.0 or newer device straight from the Google Play Store.
Full Feature Parity (aka We Didn't Half-Ass It)
Look, we coulda lazy-loaded some watered-down knockoff, but nah. Our Android version is literally the full enchilada—same fire as our iOS/iPadOS flagship. You get the whole deal when you grab it from the Google Play Store.
What's Different? (aka The Fine Print Nobody Reads)
'Course it's not exactly the same. When Apple's got some proprietary tech locked down, we got creative & found Android ways to make those features work. Here's where things get spicy.
Add To OnSong
That cute Add To OnSong extension? iOS/iPadOS only, srsly. BUT Android's got this activity sheet system & OnSong's Import From the Web is literally the same vibe, so like… problem solved, amirite?
Apple Music
Yo, you can still link backing tracks from Apple Music & Spotify in OnSong for Android, plus import tracks straight into your library. Real talk tho? Those are streaming services, which means you gotta stay plugged into the internet to actually hear 'em. You'll need the Apple Music & Spotify apps downloaded on your Android device & WiFi best be slammin'. Also we built our own song picker UI (not Apple's) & yeah, you can't pump those streams through OnSong's backing track player since they're, y'know, streamed & not stored. Shocking, we know.
Audio Subsystems
We're lowkey proud of our metronome, backing tracks, multitracks, pitch pipe, chord playback & all that jazz. Android can handle it ALL! Got more goodies cookin' for 2027 & spoiler alert—Android's gonna crush it. Now, Android devices are mad diverse & not all of 'em support low-latency audio (only the fancy ones), & we can't pump gain above 100% on Android 'cause reasons. Just FYI if you're thinkin' about makin' sweet music production magic.
Document Scanning
OnSong for Android rocks its own document scanner, OR you can install the one from Google Play Services if you're feelin' it. iOS/iPadOS uses the built-in one. Same features, same results, just different vibes.
External Video
Plot twist: not all Android devices vibe with wired video, & literally only Apple's got AirPlay locked down. So we said "fine" & added Google Cast support PLUS Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, & Samsung & LG smart TVs. Download the OnSong Display app on a compatible TV & wireless your lyrics & chords like you're livin' in 2025. You're welcome.
Files
Apple used to be like "file sharing? USB cable to your computer. Deal with it." Yeah, Android said "hard pass." But here's the thing—doesn't even matter. Just use the "Files" option to import/export from your actual Android device. Plus all your fave OnSong goodies like Dropbox, Google Drive & OnSong Drive are chillin' right there too.
Fonts
Apple comes preloaded with bougie licensed fonts like Helvetica, Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier, Verdana & Marker Felt that OnSong used to flex with. Catch is—those fonts are licensed & can't roll with musicians when they actually need 'em. So we went full Thanos & said "let's start from scratch"—class-based fonts that look sick & hit different. Bonus: we let you use custom fonts now too. You're welcome again.
Live Video
Got cameras on your Android? Boom, live video backgrounds for lyrics projection just like iOS/iPadOS. One catch—Apple had like a whole filter collection we can't touch on Android, but don't even sweat it. We recreated 92 of the 120+ effects so you probably won't even notice the difference. Probably.
MIDI
Real talk: we brought the full MIDI chaos to Android including Bluetooth MIDI & networked MIDI. Our Bluetooth MIDI interface is custom (not Apple's) & networked MIDI plays slightly different but should work cross-platform. Basically, it's fire.
Sharing
OnSong for Android's got the same beam & stream sharing magic & works over OnSong Connect on your network. It doesn't do point-to-point WiFi like OnCue (iOS/iPadOS only), but OnSong defaults to OnSong Connect anyway so you're good. Email & sharing work different 'cause, y'know, different OS. On iOS/iPadOS the OnSong® app uses Apple's system email thing through Mail. Android does its own thing.
Subscription Payment
Cop OnSong from Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore? Subscribe right there instead of the Apple App Store. Or go full indie & subscribe on the web if you wanna feel in control. Group subscriptions are web-only across all platforms because corporate loves gatekeeping.
Vertical Menubar
OnSong for Android doesn't support vertical menubar mode rn. Sorry not sorry.
